This Kata is not complete
I can't get over the disrespect that bearded wonder walking in back of him has. He didn't know who the great master was. I went to many of his classes and seminars over a 9 year period. He was the Soke!

OMG!!! I studied Shito-Ryu for 9 years and never had the chance to meet him. I still have the issue of Karate Illustrated with an article on him.
It was really something the first time I met him. He walked in late with the Shihan. I was pretty new so I didn't understand why his belt looked white, from wear. From looks He wasn't what I expected of a grandaster should look like. He had us line up for two man drills. I walked down the line and let each of us attack him. When it was my turn. I spun around like a cartoon cat an ended up on my rear. That was the first of many classes and seminars I had with the great Soke. I learned bo under him. He taught us how to do wrist take downs. I later trained under another grand-master who treated me like a son. One day I was telling some of my students what the grand-masters did and demonstrated while I was talking. I then thought hey I'm doing it.

What’s the purpose of the shoulder roll he does in the beginning as well as the whole body muscle tension? I’ve been asking and nobody been able to give me an answer and Mr. Toyama is now deceased.
Okinawan Karate style call UECHI RYU taught " Hard or soft freely " that Grand Master Seiko Toyama demonstrates before the Kata start. He showing easy but it is very hard to do one side at time. That is why he demonstrating Kata with out top Gi make sure he doing the right things you can see. Only few Masters can do and teach now days.

I was privileged to had trained under him during the 70's and early 80's. I still practice and teach this Kata doing it almost to "T" as to how he is doing it here. My wife use to enter Rohai in tournaments. The last year she competed she took 1st in 4 out 5 tournaments. A great Kata. What I also liked was the way he did ippon Kumite.

この手の演武は当初意味がないと思ってましたが、筋骨が強化されてると、万が一交通事故に遭ったときなんか軽症で済む可能性が高いので、やっていて損はないと思います。末端の腕が強化されてると受けだけでダメージを与えられますし。

Soke Teruo Hayashi was a living legend. Who ever saw him doing Karate or Kobudo will agree with me, that he was fast as hell and amazing technically skilled. Unfortunately he died in 2004.
